Bergmann Centre, formerly known as Blackhawk Valley Riding for the Handicapped, was established in 1983 as a non-profit I.R.C. 501(c)3 organization providing Therapeutic Horseback Riding to individuals with physical, mental and emotional disabilities.
The horse has become a popular tool used by many Physical and Occupational Therapists. It is promoted by many medical professions including American Physical and Occupational Therapy Associations.
ABOUT OUR STAFF & VOLUNTEERS
Bergmann Centre has a team of NARHA Certified Instructors, licensed Physical Therapists and trained volunteers who assist in our classes. Our seasoned horses receive special care and training so they can provide the best riding experience for our students.
Instructors are volunteers who have completed the stringent certification program through NARHA (North American Riding for the Handicapped Association). These individuals are Red Cross CPR and First Aid certified, and participate in NARHA-approved continuing education seminars in order to maintain their credentials. Assisting the instructors are our many dedicated volunteers who groom horses, lead and side walk in classes, clean stalls, sweep aisles, maintain our building and grounds, and countless other tasks. Our volunteers are the heart and soul of Bergmann Centre! |
